26 Sep Massive Burn Studios Releases New Book in The Studio Collections Series
Massive Burn Studios is excited to announce the newest addition to the Studio Collections series: Art by Miles Davis – Modern Surreal, now available in paperback. This marks the fourth book in the series, joining The Totem Series, Angels & Demons, and Funky Florals as part of the growing collection dedicated to exploring the neosurrealist paintings of artist Miles Davis.
Since 2024, the Studio Collections books have given collectors, fellow artists, and art lovers of every background a way to explore Miles’s work in depth — each volume built around a specific theme, complete with 51 pages of full-color images, painting details, and personal anecdotes straight from the artist. The Totem Series traced the human figure through flowing, ethereal brushwork. Angels & Demons brought a modern, secular lens to classic religious symbolism, layering acrylic and blacklight paintings with psychedelic and spiritual imagery. Funky Florals turned that same surreal sensibility toward bold, layered florals — bringing roses, tulips, irises, and more to life in vibrant color.
Modern Surreal continues that journey by capturing a body of work that moves freely between the figurative and the abstract, the geometric and the organic, realism and surrealism itself. Working primarily in acrylic, Miles allows his subconscious to guide the process — the result is a collection that resists easy categorization, and that’s exactly the point. This volume features over 30 curated paintings, along with the same full-page images, painting details, and artist reflections readers have come to expect from the series.
Whether you’ve followed the Studio Collections from the beginning or this is your first introduction to Miles’s work, Modern Surreal is a great entry point into a body of work built on nearly two decades of exploration. And as always — we’re not done yet. The Studio Collections series will keep growing, so stay tuned for what’s next.
