After returning from an exciting trip to the international Art Basel Event in Miami, December 2019, I returned to my studio inspired and more determined than ever. I had viewed an ocean of visual delights, and I felt the need to react. There were so many close up portraits, usually of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, that I figured I’d revisit portraiture as a fun exercise. Being raised in a Christian faith, I started painting the Virgin Mary, also known as the Holy Mother in Christian ideology. Determined to paint simply with just a few focal areas, I shortened the title to Mother to encompass the celebration of all motherhood and a mother’s love.
