This painting was initially inspired by a 1982 political cartoon called Still Life by esteemed editorial cartoonist Paul Conrad. I was given a book of his work by a patron of my studio, and I really enjoyed a lot of his imagery. The idea of having a nuclear silo as a vase holding a bouquet of atomic symbols for flowers was too great of an idea not to explore. My exercise took a turn of its own and again, I embellished the painting with glitter, gold, and blacklight paint. I also loved the juxtaposition of the skull – representative of death – and the defiant flower – life – that I named Hope.
